Built-In Widget Updates
Built-In Widgets are maintained and improved by the Widget Builder team. When a new version of a Built-In Widget is published, it does not update automatically for existing users. This is by design to prevent unexpected changes in your Staffbase environment.
How updates work
Each Built-In Widget has a version number. When you activate a Built-In Widget, the Widget Builder records which version you activated. Your widget will continue using that exact version until you manually update it.
When a newer version becomes available, you will see a notification on the Built-In Widget detail page:
There is a newer version of this Built-In Widget available. Please deactivate and re-activate to use the newest version.
How to update a Built-In Widget
To apply the latest version:
- Go to Built-In Widgets in the Widget Builder sidebar.
- Open the Built-In Widget that has an update available.
- In the Activate section, toggle the widget to inactive.
- Click Save to deactivate the widget.
- Toggle the widget back to active.
- Click Save again to activate the latest version.
After re-activation, all Staffbase pages that use this Built-In Widget will automatically display the updated version. There is no need to re-add the widget to any page.
Why updates are not automatic
Built-In Widget updates are intentional opt-in actions because:
- Control — You decide when changes go live in your Staffbase environment.
- Timing — You can apply updates at a time that works best for your organization.
- Stability — Your active widgets remain unchanged until you explicitly choose to update.
